The
botanical gardens of Lal Bagh, a beautiful gift from Hyder
Ali to the city, were built in 1760. Its 240 acres contain
more than 1000 tropical and sub-tropical varieties of plants
and trees, some of which are extremely rare. It also
features the flower-bordered lawn clock, just a few metres
from the main entrance, and elegant glass house modelled on
London's Crystal Palace.
